Skype lessons-dyslexia

Anne Kitchin, owner of Hummingbird Books and primary school teacher with a special interest in reading and dyslexia, has recently introduced a new service for children with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.

Lessons are given by Anne over Skype which means that she is able to work with children across the world. All a pupil needs is an internet connection and a laptop or desktop from which they can work.

Anne uses two well-researched and successful programmes to teach both spelling and reading to children with persistent difficulties in these areas, incorporating her own broad knowledge of children's literature to allow children to access books at their specific reading level, but that are also suitable for their age group. These programmes are not widely used in schools because they require considerable time commitment that schools often do not have the budget for. However, the results in terms of  raising a child's reading age and improving their spelling, not to mention their confidence are incredibly worthwhile.

An added advantage is that tutoring is all done from the comfort of your own home, so you don't need to take your child anywhere for their lessons, saving you both time and money.

A child's reading age generally increases by a minimum of 2.5 years in the 4 months that it takes to do the reading programme. This is more than 7 times faster than the progress you would expect an average child (without reading difficulties) to make in the same length of time.
